Who we are
Charset Web is a software development company based in Quebec, Canada, founded by John Pires. We build web applications and developer tools, and we made this site for the small conversions and formatting jobs that come up every day when working with data: reading a minified JSON response, turning a spreadsheet into JSON, checking what a Unix timestamp means, or converting a measurement from a technical document.
What you will find here
- Data formatters and converters: the JSON formatter and validator, the XML formatter, Excel to JSON, JSON to Excel, the number base converter and the timestamp converter.
- Unit converters: length, weight, area, volume, temperature, speed, energy, power, pressure, fuel consumption and time.
- Currency converter: uses exchange rates from Open Exchange Rates, refreshed about once an hour.
How the tools work
The formatters and unit converters run entirely in your browser. The JSON, XML or spreadsheet you paste or upload is processed on your own device and is not sent to our servers. The currency converter is the only tool that contacts our server, and only to download the current exchange rates; the amounts you convert stay in your browser. See the privacy policy for the details.
Unit conversions use the standard definitions of each unit. We check them carefully, but the tools are provided as they are: for engineering, medical, legal or financial decisions, verify critical values against an authoritative source.
